DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN ARUSHA
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport where the NK Safaris team will welcome you. After a brief introduction, you’ll be transferred to your accommodation in Arusha, a charming town located at the base of Mount Meru. Arusha is a vibrant hub and the gateway to your Kilimanjaro adventure. Take the evening to rest, explore the town, or enjoy a cultural tour. The evening will include a pre-trek briefing to discuss your climb and prepare for the upcoming days.
DAY 2: ARUSHA TO RONGAI GATE (1,950M/6,398FT) TO SIMBA CAMP (2,600M/8,530FT)
Your Kilimanjaro journey begins with a drive to Rongai Gate, located on the northeastern side of the mountain, near the Kenyan border. After completing the necessary registration, you’ll begin your trek through the lush montane rainforest. The trail ascends gradually through cultivated fields and into the forest, where you may spot wildlife like colobus monkeys. You’ll spend the night camping at Simba Camp, set in a serene forested environment.
DAY 3: SIMBA CAMP (2,600M/8,530FT) TO SECOND CAVE (3,450M/11,319FT)
Today’s trek takes you through the moorland zone, offering stunning views of both Kibo and Mawenzi Peaks. The path allows for a steady pace, giving you time to acclimatize while enjoying the diverse landscapes, including giant heathers and lobelias. You’ll arrive at Second Cave for your overnight camp, where the panoramic views are breathtaking.
DAY 4: SECOND CAVE (3,450M/11,319FT) TO KIKELEWA CAMP (3,600M/11,811FT)
Today, you’ll continue trekking through the moorland towards Kikelewa Camp. The path offers dramatic views of Mawenzi Peak, the second-highest peak on Kilimanjaro. The terrain becomes more rugged as you ascend, and the air gets thinner. Upon arrival at Kikelewa Camp, take time to relax and soak in the views.
